A new smaller capacity iPod Nano which can store 240 songs and 15,000 photos on its 1GB storage has been released by Apple, but has lacked the hype and fanfare that you'd usually associate with a new iPod product launch.

1GB Apple iPod Nano on the Apple UK Store

Recent weeks had seen growing speculation on the internet that the existing 2GB and 4GB Nano players would be joined by a 1GB model, and the listing of the new Nano on the Apple Store UK website was joined by the welcome news that the screenless iPod Shuffle players were to also receive a price cut.

With the Shuffle range being cut to £49 for the 512MB version and £69 for the 1GB model, it has allowed Apple to squeeze in the new Nano at £40 more than the same-capacity Shuffle, but it's hard to see quite who Apple are aiming the new Nano at when you consider a 2GB Nano with double the capacity only costs another £30.
