Whilst the innards of gadgets such as capacity and specifications are getting bigger all the time, the outsides seem to be shrinking rapidly and the latest to go miniature is Apple's iPod Nano, weighing just 42g and measuring an impressively small 9.0 x 4.0 x 0.69cm.

Billed as being "impossibly small" the iPod Nano will come in a choice of 2GB and 4GB models, with both featuring a 1.5 inch colour LCD screen, click wheel, USB 2.0 sync and charge support, and 14 hours of battery life - amazingly all these features are crammed in to the case which is thinner than a pencil.

Some 1000 songs can be stored on the biggest model, which can also hold up to 25,000 photos, giving you a miniaturised version of the iPod Photo, and the benefit of being able to see album cover art on screen whilst your MP3 tracks are playing.

The iPod Nano is available from the Apple iPod store now, with the 2GB model retailing for £139.
